For those of you who fit your locos with DCC chips you may find the next paragraph of interest. This item was sent by a customer who has used one of our G5 Mk3 loco chassis under a Nu-Cast body.  The G5 has a 0-4-4 wheel arrangement and we feel that what works on a G5 would work equally well on any four coupled loco.

Your (G5) chassis kit, works perfectly, superb slow running and a joy to build.  The body is Nu Cast with many mods.  Loco is DCC running on a TCS M1 decoder with a long delay " stay alive" system which overcomes any pickup problems from the 4 pickup wheels by storing and feeding back power. In fact the loco will run for 15 seconds with no power being fed in at all.  Also powers the flickering firebox.

This is the first photo of a finished C15 built from production etches. The items of boiler furniture  in turned brass are the masters for the white metal parts and some of the lost wax parts.

                                                                           Kit specification.

Comprehensive assembly instructions and 3D diagrams showing how we built this model before offering it for sale to the modelling public.

Fully compensated and load bearing chassis etched in 0.38mm nickel silver with prototypical double frames at the front.

Prototypical appearance below the footplate with "no daylight" around either the bogie or the radial axle.

Bogie has working compensation beams that take the weight of the front end of the engine and pivot around the compensation beam leaf springs.

The bogie can deflect 5° either sied of the chassis centreline and pivot 5° either side of the bogie centreline.  This produces a maximum of 10° combined deflection and rotation of the bogie unit.

The trailing radial axle has 1.25mm sideways movement.

Custom gearbox / compensation unit, 54:1 ratio, 2-stage reduction.

The superstructure is etched in 0.38mm nickel silver for ease of soldering.

The boiler is etched in 0.38mm brass, has a lap joint and is a preformed part.

The cab rear bulkhead, the cab roof, the tank outer skins, the smoke box inner and the smokebox wrapper are all pre-formed parts.

Vacuum pipes, Westinghouse pipes, Westinghouse pump, steam heating pipes, engine handbrake, Ramsbottom safety valve housing and Ross Pop safety valve housing are all lost wax castings.

The smokebox door, chimney, dome, boiler backhead tank fillers and air reservoir are all white metal castings.

NBR sprung buffers will be supplied with the kit.

Needs wheels and a Coreless 1219 motor, paint and transfers to complete.
